Ripping Instructions
Ripping the music from Monkey Island 4 is actually very easy. You don't need a tool such as Scumm Revisited this time; the music is already stored in an MP3 format on the CD. All you have to do is rename a few files!
But first a little warning: If you haven't completed the game yet, we recommand you to do so first. The songs are intended to be heard in the game first, so don't spoil your gaming experience by knowing them already in advance! Many songs only make sence in a specific situation of the game.
The music is stored in the folders \Monkey4\MonkeyData\Textures\mego (in mono, 22 kHz) and \Monkey4\MonkeyData\Textures\spago (in stereo, 44 kHz) of both CDs. Since the spago folder offers the better sound quality, we recommend you to use this folder... the songs are exactly the same!
The songs are distributed in different subdirectories (A, B, C, D, S), but each song has its own distinctive code-name, so you can copy all the songs in one single directory of your hard-drive. Please note that the folder named "S" is the identical on both CDs, since these songs have to be available from anywhere within the game (Chapter Screen, Option Screen, Credits...).
The music files are the M4B-Files... Simply rename them to MP3-Files and use an MP3-player (such as Winamp) to play them.
Here's a little hint for newbies: if you want to copy and rename the files easily, simply go to the dos-prompt (Start Menu / Programs / MS-DOS Prompt) and type in the following commands: (d: must be the letter of your CD-ROM drive, you may have to replace it by another letter; c:\monk_mus is the destination directory, you can replace it by another name)

One last thing: There are a lot of files featuring identical songs, but with different background noises. Besides, there are also some files who don't contain any music, but just ambient sound (e.g. the wind when you are standing on top of the diving tower). That's why we suggest you delete the following files. You won't miss a single song, you'll just delete identical(!) songs or files without music:
